Frequently Asked
Questions
Q1. Why see a
coach?
If you study the success of people who have
achieved a lot in their lives you will find that there were
many influences and that they had a lot of support. It is very
difficult to accomplish something truly significant on your
own.
The help and support of others is often the
critical component of any great achievement. Coaching can
provide this
Q2. What are the advantages of seeing a psychologist
for coaching?
There are several
reasons:
At present there is no
requirement for a person setting up as a coach to be trained or
qualified. In the unregulated coaching industry grand
titles, pseudo-qualifications and
meaningless accreditations abound.
Anyone can set themselves up as a coach. Further, anyone can
set up a coach training organisation and anyone can teach
coaching. This is not to say that people with a suitable
background who are not psychologists are not good
coaches.
The majority of coaches come
from a consulting, management or sales background. Such expert
business-related knowledge is important and useful if coaching
within these areas. There are many coaches who do excellent
work with their clients in a professional and ethical
manner.
Unfortunately,
until there is
recognised training
and
credentialling for coaches,
it is
difficult to tell who is capable and who
is not.
When coaches are working on
issues that require significant cognitive or emotional
development, then it is important that the coach be properly
trained. People presenting for coaching may be unsuitable
because of their emotional fragility and may be better suited
working with a therapist before attempting the challenges
and changes that
coaching requires.
Psychologists are able to
recognise whether or not a potential client is more
appropriately referred for counselling rather than accepted as
a client for coaching.
Q3. Can coaching help
me become successful?
Coaching can help you be clear
about what success means to you. Then and only then, will a
coachingprogram help you achieve success.
The Personal Power Through
Life Coaching program commences with helping you identify what
it is that you want, what values will help you achieve this,
what beliefs will empower you and what has stopped you from
achieving the life you desire.
